CARY MORGAN
CADENCE RUN COACHING FOUNDER
RUN COACH
BIRMINGHAM
My name is Cary Morgan, founder of Cadence Run Coaching, and am certified to coach by Jack Daniels' vDot Certification Program. UEASCA ULTRARUNNING, and the Road Runners Club of America. I am married to Micah Morgan who, by the way, is a much better runner than I. She is my daily running partner and best friend. I have two incredible children, both of whom are naturally gifted runners as well. I am from Birmingham, AL and reside there now. I received my Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science from Samford University in 1994 and a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from UAB in 1997. I have since practiced full time as a physical therapist and find my job very rewarding. I only ran growing up as training for other sports such as basketball and wrestling. In 1995, at age 23, I "trained" and barely finished my first marathon at the Marine Corps Marathon in DC. Then life got busy with a new child and PT School, so I took a 9-10 year hiatus and "let myself go" physically. Around 2004, I returned to running to improve my overall health and drop about 40 unwanted pounds. In the process, I fell in love with the sport and over the last 10 years have averaged 70-100 miles per week consistently. I have been able to improve my race PR's (personal records) as my training has become more focused and I have begun following a structured plan. My primary goal following that first marathon was to qualify for the Boston Marathon. I pecked away at that goal for years but could never shave enough time. That all changed December 2013 in Sacramento at the California International Marathon where I ran a 3:14:03 finishing 57 seconds under my qualifying time. To what/whom do I attribute that achievement? It was because I finally secured a run coach who devised a training plan that pushed my limits and who encouraged me regularly. I also had a "team" of running partners, which included my wife, who ran much of the same plan with me. The only thing more fulfilling to me than setting and meeting my own goals is seeing others set goals and playing a small role in helping them meet those goals. I hope you will give Cadence the chance to do that for you!
